6 Essential Things for Your Easter Egg Hunt
If you are looking to plan an Easter Egg Hunt for your kids ministry, then you have come to the right place! Let’s look at 6 essential things you’ll want to have for the best egg hunt ever!
- Candy & egg donations – Ask your families and congregation to donate empty or filled plastic eggs in the month before your Easter egg hunt. Make sure to specify no nuts or peanut butter. Have a donation location inside your church where they can drop off empty plastic eggs, filled plastic eggs, or candy.
- Prize and coupon slips – Some plastic eggs can contain slips of paper that can be turned in to collect a prize or coupon.
- Prizes – Pick out larger prizes/candies that cannot be placed inside of a plastic egg. You can find these at Target, Walmart, or the Dollar Store.
- Coupons – Ask restaurants if they would donate coupons for your Egg Hunt. In the past, I received Scoopy Tokens from Culver’s and Chick-fil-A coupon cards.
- Slips to place inside the eggs – Make sure the slip of paper identifies what the child has won. For the prizes, I put bright yellow paper slips into plastic golden eggs. For the coupons I put blue or red slips of paper into regular plastic eggs.
- Each slip has a typed message saying something like, “Congratulations! You found a golden egg! Bring this slip to the Prize Table to pick our your prize!” or “Congratulations! You have won a ________ coupon! Bring this slip to the Prize Table to receive your coupon!”

- Empty egg collector – have a large bucket or cute container to collect empty eggs once the Easter egg hunt is over. Many of the eggs will get taken home just to be thrown away – why not collect them at the end of the egg hunt so that you have them for next year! Make sure there is a sign that says “Place your empty eggs here!” or “Feed me your empty eggs!”

- Treat bags for latecomers – When you host an Easter egg hunt at a specific time, there is always a chance that a few families will miss it and come too late to participate. If this happens, it is so nice to have a few treat bags on hand that you can give them. Fill little plastic goody bags with filled eggs, or with candy and other goodies.
- Easter bags craft – These Color Your Own Easter Bags are a great craft idea for an Easter egg hunt! Kids can color the bags and then use them to collect eggs in during the hunt! All you need are crayons, markers, tables, and chairs.
- Traffic cones for safety – If you are hosting your Easter egg hunt outside near your parking lot, you will want to have a way to block off thru traffic and make sure that your egg hunt area is safe. Make sure you think through where people will be walking and congregating before, during, and after the egg hunt.
