10 Trunk or Treat Essentials
If you are ready to plan your Trunk or Treat (and have read this), then I am sure you are eager to put together your shopping list and get to planning! Here are 10 essentials that you should consider getting for your Trunk or Treat! Scroll down to see why I picked each item and where you can find it!
- Free Halloween Coloring Pages: Oriental Trading has some wonderful free coloring pages on their website, and there are 20 Halloween themed ones to choose from! These would make a great addition to your Trunk or Treat – Get a plastic pumpkin bucket, put the coloring pages in it so that they don’t fly away, add crayons or markers, and ta-dah! Coloring table!
- Bean Bags: These bean bags make for a great DIY Bean Bag Toss game. Purchase a few plastic pumpkin buckets and place them around in the grass for bean bag toss. You could also decorate cardboard boxes and cut out various holes for bean bag toss (just make sure you can access the back for easy bean bag retrieval).
- Traffic Cones: If your church doesn’t already own any large and sturdy traffic cones, now is the time to get them! These are important for blocking off sections of the parking lot for Trunk or Treat, and to make sure that thru traffic cannot get into the area where your decorated trunks are during the event. These come in handy other times too – I even pulled them out for our Egg Hunt!
- Scarecrow Decoration: This little scarecrow decoration is great for sticking in a bale of hay at your photo op area of Trunk or Treat! With a couple bales of hay and some pumpkins, you can have the perfect fall backdrop for a family photo!
- Face Paint: I think we can all agree that every child loves getting their face painted, so why not include this at your Trunk or Treat! All you need is this face paint, some little cups of water, paint brushes, and a table & chairs!
- Plastic Tablecloths: The plastic tablecloths at Party City beat any other plastic tablecloths, hands down. That’s why I keep going back to them! They are good quality, not see through, and hold up well. They sell rectangular ones and circular ones, in tons of different colors. I’d suggest orange, black, and purple for Trunk or Treat!
- Wooden Stakes: This seems like a random addition, but these are wonderful for making homemade yard signs! Just tape, hot glue, or staple a foam board sign to the stake, and stick it in the ground at your Trunk or Treat! Such an easy way to mark your games & activities!
- Ring Toss Game: Such a great set for something like Trunk or Treat! You can even swap the colorful cones out for smaller pumpkins, and have people try to toss the rings around them!
- Tablecloth Clips: Honestly… these are a secret weapon for event planning, and I am sad it took me so long to discover them! After years of trying to get plastic tablecloths to stay on plastic tables using all kinds of tape, I discovered these – cue the “Hallelujah Chorus”! These are amazing and just what you need to keep your plastic tablecloths in place inside or outside.
- Temporary Tattoos: One thing that will always be a hit are temporary tattoos! Oriental Trading has a lot of different Halloween themed packs to choose from, and they even have a 500 count one! This would be a great addition to your face paint table at Trunk or Treat – all you need is a roll of paper towels and a tiny spray bottle with water.
